Championing For Public Education
Kim Burkett brings nearly three decades of experience in communications and marketing to her role on the TPEDF Board of Directors. She holds degrees in Communications and Political Science from Florida State University and began her career as an editor for an educational publisher before moving into the benefits administration industry.
A passionate advocate for Texas public education, Kim began her advocacy work in 2011 as a mother of a public school student and spouse of a lifelong educator. She has served as a PTA council legislative chairperson, blogger, and grassroots organizer, working with groups such as Save Texas Schools and Texas Kids Can’t Wait to influence legislation and empower voters. Her efforts to make complex school finance and public education issues accessible to voters were featured in the 2014 Vanessa Roth documentary, The Texas Promise.
In 2023, Kim became a founding steering committee member of Unite for NISD, a nonpartisan grassroots organization focused on raising awareness and engagement in public education issues and local school board elections. She lives in Fort Worth, Texas, with her husband and son, and remains deeply committed to advocating for strong, equitable public schools across the state.
